3 EASY STEPS
You get to listen on a regular music playing device that makes our treatment convenient and affordable.
Our software uses a computational model of the hearing brain, combined with your personal profile, to turn music tracks into your personalized sound therapy tracks.
It’s this customization that makes the treatment effective.
Listen to the samples below to hear how our software can design three versions of a personalized sound therapy track based on three DIFFERENT hearing and tinnitus profiles.
We use neuroscience research to design your tinnitus treatment
Tinnitus arises when brain plasticity makes the hearing brain overactive
When hearing loss or other factors cause our hearing brain to change, the changes can cause tinnitus.

Hearing loss or other factors can initiate a process wherein the auditory cortex (the highest region of the hearing brain) attempts to compensate for reduced or altered hearing input. Our brain has the power to change and adapt, and the hearing brain is no different. The problem is, that in some cases, the adaptation can make the hearing brain overactive, even when no external sound is present. This can contribute to the development of tinnitus.
Unfortunately, it is not just a matter of too much activity. The way the hearing brain processes information can also change. In addition, there are still other changes that have been linked to tinnitus. What makes tinnitus so challenging to treat is that the changes can vary from person to person. In fact, we know that each person can hear a tinnitus sound different from the sound another tinnitus sufferer hears.
We design a customized sound therapy for you
The good news is that the right kind of sound input can help reduce this effect so that your tinnitus is reduced over time.

By incorporating a computational model of the hearing brain, Sound Options can integrate the most up-to-date research on tinnitus and the brain into the software. This allows us to predict the underlying brain changes based on your hearing and tinnitus profile. Because of this, we are able to customize a sound therapy specifically for you. As more research comes out, Sound Options works to improve this process and the software’s ability to predict what sound therapy should work best.
Your tinnitus becomes manageable as the treatment reduces the overactivity
The brain that causes tinnitus can be the brain that helps you manage it.
TELL ME MORE
The sound therapy can provide your hearing brain with the type of sound input it needs to help reduce the tinnitus over time. This is thought to happen through the same brain plasticity mechanisms that contributed to your tinnitus in the first place. Because we were able to take your hearing profile and tinnitus profile into account, we could then use the same mechanisms to reduce the tinnitus being caused by changes to your hearing brain. Our clinical study indicated that this customization (when compared to listening to music that was not altered by our software) is the key.
Clinically Tested at a Top University
Sound Options: Rigorously tested for effectiveness.
Clinical trial at McMaster University shows substantial improvement in tinnitus among patients using Sound Options therapy. Patients were randomized to receive either Sound Options therapy or regular music (control group).
- 50 patients were followed up for 12 months. They were not told which groups they were in.
- Patients using the Sound Options therapy saw differences within the first 3 months of use.
- Sound Options therapy shows significant and lasting improvement for patients
- On average, tinnitus sufferers in the study saw a 40% reduction
